Ugh. Hawkeye.

I’ve been on the record about my dislike of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) version of Hawkeye played by Jeremy Renner. This dislike has nothing to do with Jeremy Renner and everything to do with the MCU’s approach to the character which involves mediocre/nonexistent character development as well as terrible character development aka Hawkeye-goes-by-the-name-Ronin-in-Avengers: Endgame-and-spends-the-beginning-of-the-movie-traveling-to-different-countries-to-murder-brown-bad-guys development. Anyways, the trailer for the new Hawkeye TV show on Disney+ was released.

The show is clearly pulling from the Hawkeye comic series by Matt Fraction, David Aja and co. which is irritating because I love that series so much and it’s being brought to life by the terrible movie version of Hawkeye. This comic series ran from 2012 – 2015 and it got me into reviewing comics back when I was a newbie book blogger. This comic series means a lot to me!

Will I watch this show? When it was first announced, my answer was no. However! It’s pulling from a comic series I love, it takes place during the holiday season, it looks like it features a deaf/hard of hearing Hawkeye, it seems to have Pizza Dog from the comics, it has Kate Bishop and finally, it cast a Native American actress as the Indigenous deaf character named Echo. So I guess I’m watching it.

I also plan to do a re-read of the Hawkeye series. This is something I just decided to do and I think it’ll be fun to see if I have the same thoughts as my old reviews! Stay tuned.
